The west is having plenty of stormy weather, so I hear. There are other "storms" that come upon us throughout this life, having nothing to do with the weather. Weather storms are typically "weathered" by man's efforts.
These "other" storms require a bigger Plan and more Power than we humans can ever have...though we may think we can "do it, if we stick to it."
My friend Max...the preacher/writer/author...writes about questions he often hears from people going through these "storms" of life. "If God is so good, why do I sometimes feel so bad?" Or, If His message is so sclear, why do I get so confused?" And, "If God is in control, why do good people have gut-wrenching problems in this life?"1
I submit that this same God these people (and many others) question has the answers and is ever willing to supply them. Moreover, He is there all the time...in and through the midst of the storm... ready to give comfort, wisdom, and strength, while waiting patiently to supply another measure of faith. So what's the problem?
May I suggest...
Too many of us may be sight/hearing/heart impaired. We want the answers (and solutions) to be supplied to us like fireworks on the 4th, and shouted into our hearts with a bullhorn.
"Come unto Me, all you who are weary and burdened...." - Matthew 11:28
With soft light and gentle whispers...that's how our God speaks to His people. Why? For oursakes! To let us know that we are watching, listening, and believing. How many times...too numerous to count...has He intervened in the storms of our lives? And we have not thanked Him because we have not been watching, listening, believing.
True...throughout human history, God has spoken some "thunderbolt and lighting strike" messages to get man's attention...and perhaps is still doing some of that (though I doubt many are hearing). But our hearts may need to be fine-tuned to the "candlelight" and the "whispered promises" that can be seen, heard, and believed in the heart of every Christian.
If only we will avail ourselves of His invitation, "Come unto Me...."
